World day for animal

World Day for Animals in Laboratories, also known as World Lab Animal Day is observed every year on 24th April. This day was coined to highlight the major issue of cruelty towards Lab animals they are tortured and used as testers for absolutely no fault of theirs. Long back in 1979, this day was declared by the British National Anti-Vivisection Society. The birthday (24th April) of Hugh Dowding, the former NAVS President, was the date chosen to mark this special day. National anti-vivisection society (NAVS) is the first organisation set up for raising voice against animal experiments. It was founded by Miss Frances Power Cobbe in 1875. This step was taken positively by the government which led to the creation of various legislations to prevent medical experimentation and tests on animals. The famous ‘Cruelty to Animals Act 1876’ was formed on 15 August 1876 after the formation of NAVS.

What is Animal Testing?
World Animal Day The process of conducting experiments for testing products on animals to find reactions of various chemicals and compounds is called animal testing. It is to be noted that animal testing is done deliberately by scientists to get better clarity about certain chemicals. Such tests are not normal for animals. Their health is deteriorated with these random experiments. It is like slow and steady torture for animals. According to scientists and biologists, these experiments are performed to analyse the effects of medications and notice behavioural changes of animals. Vivisection is also one of the procedures conducted on animals. It is a wide term used for experimentation on living animals. It involves surgeries to view and observe the internal anatomy of animals. All these processes cause harm and often result in death or malfunctioning of body organs.

Various Kinds of Animal Testing

  • Pure Research:
Pure research is done to find out true behaviour of organisms and explore their Doctor brushing white and black rabbitfunctionalities. This research involves the use of many organisms and is done to ascertain behavioural patterns and interactions with each other. Such experiments are deemed to be important for the study of evolution and genetics.
  • Applied Research:
Such experiments are done to find solutions to various problems. Different types of animals, healthy or infected, are used for this type of research. Animals are procured as models and testing is done either to see the effects of chemicals on diseased animals or models are created by inducing human diseases to find appropriate treatment. Placebo testing and genetic modification is also performed on animals.
  •  Xeno Transplantation:
This process started in 1905. In this process, animal organs were transplanted into the human body.
  •  Toxicology Testing:
This type of testing involves the use of finished products on animals. Pesticides, packing materials, air fresheners, medications and other chemical products are used in this type of testing. These chemical-based products are used on the eyes or skin or injected ruthlessly into animals.
  •  Cosmetics Testing:
Cosmetic testing on animals is banned in India, Israel, Norway and European Countries but is still practised in many parts of the world.
  • Drug testing:
Drug testing involves the use of drugs and medicines on animals. In this type of testing, new pharmaceuticals are used on animals to see the results and effectiveness of drugs

Animals Used for Testing Purposes in Laboratory
There is no specific limit set on animals used for testing. The wide range of animals used for testing includes mice, rats, rabbits, dogs, cats, frogs, caterpillars, monkeys, fish, pigs, birds, flies, wax worms, fruit flies, squirrel monkeys, chimpanzees, baboons etc

Why say No to Animal Testing?

  • The successful test trials done on animals fail most of the time on human beings and only leads to unnecessary harm done to animals.
  • Throughout the year, many tests are conducted on animals, whereas only a few of them make it to the approval list. So it is better not to give them unnecessary pain.
  • The drugs and medications of diseases like Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease are tested on animals but these kind of ailments do not even exist in animal bodies.
  • Just like every individual responds differently to different medicines, animals too behave differently than human beings.
  • Death of so many poor animals takes place uselessly, which definitely is a shame for humanity.

Experiments in the Form of Cruelty to Animals
Animals are forced to inhale or eat chemical substances.Doctor holding a brown puppy Many a times, eyes and skin of animals are forcibly smeared with toxic substances. Allergic reactions like itching, sneezing and inflammation can also be seen in animals. Organ failure, due to excessive use of toxic elements is possible with these laboratory experiments.

The symptoms and results obtained on animals, mentioned above are clear examples of Cruelty towards animals.

Preserva Wellness Does Not Support Animal Testing

World Animal Day Preserva Wellness supports animal life along with the lives of human beings. Our plant-based compositions are beneficial for human health and has no involvement of animals. We value animals and understand how important these lives are for maintaining a healthy life cycle on earth. Destroying animals is like destroying ourselves. It will eventually deplete our ecosystem.

Preserva Wellness products contain a unique composition of herbs and spices which have no side-effects on the health of human beings. Also, no animal testing is required in the preparation of these natural healthcare products. We understand healthcare means to provide attention to every sphere of our bodies while maintaining our responsibility towards all living beings. Thus, we urge everyone to stay friendly to animals rather than getting their products tested on them in experimental labs.

The words of Mahatma Gandhi are appropriate to remember on The World Day for Animals in Laboratories which are:

“The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”
With rapid development of science and technology, almost every animal life is at stake. We need to create more awareness in all the parts of the world to stop this cruel and nasty pattern of testing animals in labs.

On this World Day for Animals in Laboratories

  • Let us all join hands for the benefit of animals
  • Let us all look after ourselves but not let greed affect the Earth
  • Let us all be true examples of humanity
