Depression

Depression is a mental disorder that affects the feelings and emotional state of an individual. Such a mental state can cause further physical disturbances. People usually consider it similar to low mood but it goes a long way in affecting physical and mental health. Depression is more common in women than men. 
The cause of depression has not been completely identified but are thought to be a combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and psychosocial factors. It is best to see a psychologist to help determine if constant feelings of sadness are actually clinical depression. Specialists can diagnose and understand depression and use the help of tests such as The Hamilton Depression Rating Scale consisting of 21 questions.
There can be many uncertain factors responsible for depression such as:
Genetic issues
Social pressure
Excessive stress
Chronic illness
Uncertain and pressing life events
 
Some common symptoms of depression are:
1. Gloomy feeling
2. Loss of sleep
3. Loss of energy
4. Negative thoughts 
5. Guilt, doubts, indecisiveness
6. Abnormal weight loss or weight gain
7. Lack of concentration, nervousness and anxiety.

  • Consult a psychiatrist, psychologist or therapist specialising in depression
  • Exercise to release happy hormones and stay away from stress
  • Talk about your problems with a therapist or a friend
  • Do activities that make you happy
  • Seek help and care from friends and family

  • Eat healthy nutritious food
  • Do not take any medication without consultation
  • Avoid stress and stress inducing situations
