Dengue

Dengue is a fast emerging viral disease which can turn into a pandemic. When an outbreak of disease spreads across a large region i.e. in multiple continents or worldwide, it is termed as a pandemic.

Transmitted by mosquitoes, dengue can be quite debilitating. Even in its not so severe cases, it can leave the affected person weak for quite some long time. Millions of cases of dengue are reported worldwide every year. It is most common in regions of Southeast Asia which include India, and the western Pacific islands. Its prevalence is increasing at a fast pace in regions of Latin America and Caribbean. According to World Health Organisation, nearly half of the world’s population is at risk of developing dengue infection.

It is seen that dengue may not show any signs and symptoms in its very mild forms in some people, especially in children and teenagers. Symptoms can take a period of four to ten days to occur after a mosquito bite. Dengue is suspected when a high fever of nearly 104 F degrees or 40 C degrees is accompanied by any of the two following symptoms:

  • Severe headache: Headache is more intense in people suffering with classic dengue fever which is typically self limiting as compared to people who suffer from more severe form of dengue such as dengue haemorrhagic fever. Several people who have suffered from this pain word it as ‘indescribable, crazy pain’.
  • Pain behind the eyes: Also known as retro-orbital pain, it is one of the presenting ocular or eye symptoms in dengue infection.
  • Muscle and joint pains: Dengue fever is also called the ‘break bone fever’. The reason is severe muscular, bone and joint pain experienced by patients during the fever.
  • Nausea:  One of the clinical signs of dengue fever is nausea.
  • Vomiting: Dengue can be accompanied by gastritis which leads to pain in abdomen, vomiting, nausea and diarrhoea.
  • Swollen glands: Enlargement of lymph nodes can be caused by a virus when dengue fever is there.
  • Rash: A flat red rash may appear over most of the body 2 to 5 days after fever starts. This rash is followed by a rash which looks like the measles and appears later in the disease.
  • Reduction in white blood cells and platelets: Dengue patients are most likely to develop low platelet count and WBC count. Due to low platelet count, dengue patients can develop severe bleeding.

Prevent dengue fever with few precautions!

A mosquito-borne disease is best prevented by avoiding mosquito bites. There is also lack of awareness about protection of dengue in many sectors of societies. However, small steps can help you keep away from the troublesome symptoms of dengue.

  • Keep yourself covered:

Dengue mosquitoes bite during the day and maximum bites occur 2 hours after sunrise and 2 hours before sunset. Wear long-sleeve shirts and long pants so that it gets difficult for mosquitoes to bite you.

  • Avoid places with stagnant water:

Do not let water accumulate in pots, holes, or in utensils in and around your house. Regularly clean you coolers, ac and fridge trays, and water tanks. Mosquitoes which transmit dengue virus, i.e., Aedes mosquitoes, breed in clean, stagnant water.

  • Sleep with mosquito bed nets:

If there are lot of mosquitoes in your area, make sure that you sleep with a mosquito bed net on your bed.

  • Throw out items that hold water:

Empty and scrub the items that hold water such as buckets daily. Dispose properly the items that can hold stagnant water such as tires, broken toys and flower pots and trash items. Mosquitoes can lay eggs anywhere in or near stagnant water as less as one tablespoon of water in amount.

  • Drink Platimore Juice:

A combination of papaya leaf extract, giloy, mandukaparni, curcumin from turmeric can prevent the dengue virus from getting active in body. It can prevent degradation of platelet and white blood cell count when one is affected by dengue virus.

And if, dengue still infects you......

  • Continue consuming Platimore Juice:

Papaya leaves and giloy in Platimore Juice can prevent falling of platelet count during dengue fever. The juice as a whole can also increase platelet count if it has already decreased. It also helps in keeping the white blood cells in range. Since Platimore juice is also a blood purifier, it can help in clearing off circulating toxins from blood.

  • Keep taking healthy fluids:

Consume a lot of water to stay hydrated. Immune Boosting Tea is one of the fluids you should not ignore when you are down with dengue. The herbs in it aid in recovery from dengue fever and also reduce the risk of further infections.

  • Take adequate rest:

Proper rest is an essential part of convalescence. Working when you are already suffering from dengue will create an additional load which the physical and mental sphere of your health would not be able to handle.

  • Do NOT take aspirin or ibuprofen:

Aspirin is an anti-platelet drug and works to reduce clots in the blood. Aspirin and ibuprofen can aggravate the condition of low platelet count and increase the risk of internal bleeding.

  • Keep taking Platimore Juice:

Regular consumption of Platimore Juice can prevent the platelets from falling. If the platelets have already decreased, this tonic can help in increasing them.

Product of Month: Platimore Juice

Doing wonders by protecting liver, Platimore Juice is made of aloe vera pulp, papaya leaf extract, giloy, mandukaparni, Tulsi, and curcumin from turmeric. The work of Platimore Juice is to enhance immunity and purify blood. Due to the ingredients present in it, Platimore Juice can minimise the bad effects of alcohol.

The pulp of aloe vera assists the liver in neutralising toxins and flushing them out. Aloe Vera reduces build-up of harmful products and removes the old build-up. Since aloe vera is present in Platimore Juice, it can improve digestion and soothe the digestive tract. It can prevent and manage dengue fever.

Papaya leaf extract is a potent cleansing agent of liver. It is therefore capable of preventing and healing fatty liver and liver cirrhosis. Since it has a potential of fighting against dengue fever by increasing platelet and white blood cells, it was used traditionally to treat dengue fever and makes its presence in Platimore Juice.

Giloy is a very good herbal modulator and corrects liver metabolism. It is functional in treating fatty liver. Various studies have found that giloy, or guduchi, has anti- inflammatory, anti – bacterial, and antipyretic (fever-curing) properties and can treat dengue fever in the early stages. Giloy increases the platelets in a significant manner and lowers the body temperature. It strengthens immune system by increasing white blood cells. Its bitter properties are not only responsible for treating dengue but also prevent the regular recurrence of infectious diseases like dengue, swine flu, malaria, etc. It also helps in maintaining the body’s metabolism, reducing swelling, and demonstrates anti-viral properties.

Mandukaparni has hepato-protective action on a large number of toxins and prevents and heals chronic disorders of liver. It reduces fever and relieves congestion in chest.

Tulsi has phytonutrients and essential oils which are excellent antioxidants and protects the liver and other organs of the body from free radical damage. It puts up an amazing fight against disease causing microbes and reduces damage done to the body. It also relieves fever naturally and brings down the body temperature.

Curcumin is a great antioxidant, pain-relieving, immune system enhancer, anti microbial agent and protects your body against dengue fever.

The combination of Platimore Juice is a complete tonic for protection of liver against alcohol and other toxins and various mosquito–borne fevers, including dengue and chikungunya.

Scorching heat had to bow down in front of our iced herbal curcumin teas!

Who would want to come out of their homes under this burning sun? But, there are certain names which make people come out and enjoy! One such brand name is Preserva Wellness! As we do it each month, we followed the ritual of hosting a health camp in May too. We were amazed that people did actually come to it even in boiling conditions as the temperature skyrockets in May and enjoyed our iced herbal curcumin teas. People now have much healthier options in the range of cold drinks as compared to the carbonated beverages available in the market.

Apart from our teas, our juices, especially Immunoblast Juice, Platimore Juice and Daily Strength Juice were the focus of the market and were sold out! Immunoblast Juice can protect you from heat waves and hot winds in the rising temperatures. The benefits of Platimore juice, including those in dengue and against the various toxins in diet and alcohol, have been stated above. Daily Strength Juice has its importance in various homes as it protects people’s lungs from ill effects of air pollutants and smoking. It also helps in preventing cold and cough, especially in children, which arises from drinking chilly drinks on suddenly coming from hot temperature. When a complete preventive and healing health package is available on the stall of Preserva Wellness, why would anybody go somewhere else?

These holistic camps were conducted at our favourite venue, Sunder Nursery, New Delhi on 5th and 19th May, ’19. Enjoy good health with us. As they say, “To keep the body in good health is a duty...otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.”
