Fight the Bite of Dengue from Nature’s Fruitful Basket

Dengue is an acute fever caused by a virus transmitted by the bite of an Aedes Argypti mosquito, found indoors, in the closet and other dark places. Outdoors they rest in cool and shaded areas. Incurring in tropical and sub-tropical parts of the world, DF is severe, flu-like illness that affects infant, young children, and adults. It spreads rapidly, and in the event of epidemic, it will affect a large number of people and eventually cause the loss of lives.
Four different serotypes of Dengue virus are reported DEN1, DEN2,DEN3 and DEN4, When antibody from the first infection is neutralized, secondary infections by other serotypes can cause more serious infection. The extent of cumulative disease burden caused by Dengue virus has attained an unprecedented level in recent times with sharp increase in the size of human population at risk. Dengue disease presents highly complex medical, economic and ecologic problems. Till now, there is no effective antiviral medicine or drug for treating the Dengue fever.
The surge on the development of Dengue vaccines, taking advantage of new generation of biotechnology techniques indicates the profound interest and urgency in the scientific and medical communities in combating this disease.
Besides several attempts by biotech companies in India none of them was able to produces government approved clinically safe vaccine against Dengue but the nature has fruitful bag of herbs that can effectively help to cure the problem of Dengue. So the nature provides the herbal remedies for Dengue fever.
Several scientific studies have been reported for the crucial role of medicinal plants to enhance the immune system and pharmacological activity against Dengue virus infection. The demand for plant-based formulations is growing as they are generally considered to be safer, non-toxic and less harmful than synthetic drugs. The present review is about all the prominent.

Foods that combat low platelet count

To date, 31 different species have been found from nature’s repertoire to have the potential to treat Dengue; some of these have not yet been investigated scientifically. Several Ayurvedic herbs like Tulsi(Ocimum sanctum), Giloy (Tinospora cardifolia), Parpatak (Fumaria officinalis), Kiratatikta (Bhunibha, Swertia chirata), Pippali (Piper longum), Dhaniya(Coriandrum sativum), Neem(Azadirachta indica), Shunti (Zingiber officinale), Kalamegha(Andrographispani),Musta (Cyperus rotundus), Haldi (Curcuma longa) Papaya (Carica papaya) etc. have been described to be effective in the treatment of fever. Many herbal formulations in different dosage forms are available in the market for the treatment of Dengue fever
The juice of Papaya leaf has been found to be useful in the treatment of Dengue fever. A number of scientific papers have proved that Papaya leaf juice is actually beneficial for the body. A decoction made from fresh Papaya leaves is utterly crucial for increasing the blood platelet count. Dengue infection causes loss of platelets, which further results in the need of blood transfusion. Papaya leaves have natural enzymes like chymopapin and papain, which normalize platelet count and improve clotting of blood.
It also cures liver damage caused by Dengue virus. Interestingly, Giloy , has been reported to help in treating Dengue in early stages without any side-effects. It has been reported to increase the platelets and lower the body temperature.
Giloy enjoys the reputation of being one of the most famous medicinal plants used in treatment of large number of human ailments in Ayurveda. In the wake of the current epidemic of viral fevers and dengue, its use seems relevant and worth exploring. Interestingly, Adding a few leaves of Tulsi (Basil) will enhance its efficacy. Methi leaves help in controlling pain during Dengue fever. It also helps stabilize blood pressure, which is crucial in Dengue induced fever. Soak fresh leaves in water and consume. It also helps in reducing fever. The alcoholic extract of Cipa(Cissampelos pariera Linn) is a potent
inhibitor of all four serotypes of Dengue in terms of viral NS1 antigen secretion, Virus yield reduction assays showed that Cipa extract could decrease viral titers by an order of magnitude. The extract conferred statistically significant protection against DENV infection. By using these herbal drugs alone or as adjuvant with modern drugs, Dengue fever can be controlled and cured.

If they Breed, you will Bleed
There is urgent need of development of new anti-dengue products from bioactive compounds isolated from medicinal plants in order to find more effective and less toxic anti-dengue drugs. If pursued from drugs derived from medicinal plants around the continents, this work may prove valuable to the health of individuals and to nations. However, to identify potential anti-dengue plants or compounds, knowledge of the mechanisms of virus infection need to be understood in order to formulate the effective herbal drugs.

News of the month Facts you should know about Dengue Virus

Infected mosquitoes are able to pass on the dengue virus for the rest of their life When the mosquito feeds on the blood of a person infected with dengue, the virus enters and multiplies within the mosquito. And same mosquito can transmit the virus to another human.
Only female mosquitoes are dengue carriers-because the human blood is rich source of protein, which is necessary for the production of their eggs.
There are four different but closely related strains of the virus that cause dengue fever. If you get infected with one strain, this does NOT protect you against catching any of the three other types.
The Aedes mosquito responsible for spreading dengue fever is most active during the DAY, particularly around dawn and dusk – although it is important to note that this mosquito can bite ANY time of the day or night
Dengue fever goes by other names – including “break-bone” or “dandy fever.”
Dengue fever patients should never take aspirin. Aspirin can intensify the bleeding of a dengue fever patient so most of the time paracetamol is recommended instead to relieve fever and pain symptoms
